THE NAVIGATOR PROGRAM
Boys in the Navigators Patrol range in age from 11 to 14 years old. They will become competent in the outdoor program through learning the nine Ready Trailman required Trail Badges and participating in the outdoor program.
Navigators participate in a true outdoor program with hiking, camping, and other activities. They are in more of a learning mode, developing their core skills with adequate supervision and easing gracefully into camping by patrols. As they climb through the ranks of Recruit Trailman, Able Trailman, and Ready Trailman, they will lay a safe and comfortable foundation for the challenges of the Navigator Program.
Twice a month the Navigators Trailman works on required badges. Once a month he joins with the Adventurers in planning for special activities and outdoor adventures. If a Navigators Trailman misses out on badge work during the meetings, he can work on his requirements outside of meetings with his Mentor.

In our Troop, the Navigator Trailmen can wear the Navigator Polo or the formal uniform for troop meetings, formal events and service projects. The Navigator Trail Shirt is optional and great for Hit the Trails activities. Uniform options are available in the Trail Life USA Store. For patch placement, see the Uniform Insignia Placement Guide
Any pants in good condition or hats (Trail Life USA preferred) may be worn at this time. Non-Trail Life USA hats should be free of logos. Closed-toed shoes (preferably boots or tennis type shoes) are required for all Trail Life USA activities including normal meetings.
The Trailman's Handbook for Navigators and Adventurers
Instruction, Information and Inspiration!
The core of the program for both groups is detailed in The Trailman's Handbook. It is available for sale in the Trail Life USA Store. It contains the joining requirements, Rank Advancements for Navigators, Awards for Adventurers and all Trail Badge Requirements for the required Trail Badges for each level. Written in a style sure to capture the Trailman's interest, it is filled with useful information, instruction, and inspiration. The handbook is considered part of the uniform.
The Trail Life USA Troop Standard is awarded to Trailman who earn the Navigator Able Trailman Rank. It has been designed and manufactured to hold all Trail Life USA advancements for Navigators and Adventurers. Other standards may be used for non-advancement type medallions like those purchased from national or state parks. Trail Life USA advancements should not be placed on other standards. Find out more about the history of the Troop Standard here.

Service Stars
Navigator Trailmen must earn one service star (Silver) for each year since joining as a Navigator for their Able and Ready Trailman Ranks. Each service star requires 15 hours of service. Service stars are earned for completing the required hours for Rank/Award or additional hours after the required number for Service Stars are affixed to the Trailman's Troop Standard.
